As a publicist for high-end fashion brands, I am constantly thinking about clothing. I spend an embarrassingly large portion of my disposable income on dresses and heels that I can wear to meetings, but lingerie often ends up being last on my list. Luckily, upon my engagement, my amazing fashion designer client, Naeem Khan, generously took care of my dress (a dream come true!). I happily found myself with a little extra money to splurge on intimates.
As we planned our Mexico nuptials and honeymoon, I slowly began collecting fun and flirty items that I hoped would help to make us feel like the newlyweds we would be and less like a couple that was in fact heading into our eighth year together. After finding a pretty ivory chiffon Oscar de la Renta chemise, a super sexy white lace babydoll from Victoria’s Secret, and a gorgeous over-indulgent ecru-colored satin bra, panty and garter belt from La Perla, I felt I had more than enough of the requisite bridal pieces. I then felt free to move onto what really excited me – bright colorful pieces that suited our Caribbean setting! A neon yellow lace balconette bra and panty from Deborah Marquit, teal Juicy Couture pajamas, and Free People’s hipsters in a multitude of poppy shades, were exactly what I had in mind.
Shopping for these surprises I planned to reveal to my new husband was more fun than I had ever expected and, as I packed for our trip, it was funny to realize how much my lingerie wardrobe reflected my clothing wardrobe – a high/low combination featuring tons of color mixed in with great neutrals. Having something sexy and pretty to layer under each of my dresses on our honeymoon made each evening even more special. My wedding was wonderful for many, many reasons, but an excuse to splurge on countless negligees was not at all the least of them! And the best part is, the new lingerie will last long after the wedding has passed.
